CARTIF

CARTIF is one of Spain's leading research and technology centres employing more than 200 people, including engineers and scientists in 7 research areas (Energy, Environment, ICT, Food and Chemicals, Automation and Process Control, Robotics and Computer Vision). In 2009 CARTIF carried out over 100 R&D and innovation projects, with a turnover of approximately 13M?. Moreover, CARTIF is part of 20 research and professional networks ?including 13 international? and many technology platforms. CARTIF also keeps a close collaboration with the most representative organisations of regional and national industrial development: Castilla y Le?n Regional Development Agency, the Spanish Ministry of Industry and the European Commission (DG Research, DG Enterprise, DG Environment and DG TREN). Main tasks in the project In the project CARTIF will be involved in the system integration and fuzzy rule systems. It will act as leader of WP5 and will host the mockup of the project (WP07) Previous experience relevant to those tasks The Information and Computer Technologies (ICT) area of CARTIF boasts a consolidated research line in "Knowledge-based Intelligent Systems? (Cartif, 2012). Within this field, the area works to apply the obtained results both in the social field, and in the industrial and services environment, so as to obtain solutions technological, economically and socially viable. ICT-2011.1.6 SOCIAL&SMART Page 41 of 76 CARTIF activity has an important international dimension: Currently, CARTIF is involved in 17 international projects, with partners in almost all the EU countries, non-EU Mediterranean ones and Latin America. The mainly programmes in which CARTIF participates are: Framework Programme, Intelligent Energy, LIFE, INTERREG, MEDA Programme, etc. This international experience is in line with the rest of the Centre, and it is promoted through the International Projects Department and materialised in the current participation of CARTIF in 17 international projects (9 of the Seventh Framework Programme, 2 of the Sixth FP and 1 Intelligent Energy for Europe among others). Moreover, CARTIF takes an active part in 10 International networks and platforms

Short profile of key persons

Dr. Gregorio I. S?INZ PALMERO. He is the Head of the Information and Computer Technologies Division and an associate professor at the University of Valladolid. He is author and co-author of several papers on softcomputing techniques applied to decision support systems in cognitive decline detection, document analysis and recognition, modelling and system identification, fault detection, clustering techniques and knowledge extraction, including several industrial applications of artificial neural networks. His research interests include Computational Intelligence techniques: neural networks, fuzzy logic and genetic algorithm, applied to real world and industrial problems.

MEng. Marta GALENDE HERN?NDEZ: She has earned two degrees, respectively in Computer Science Engineering in 2006 and MEng in 2008, from the University of Valladolid (Spain). Full-time researcher at CARTIF?s Information and Computer Technologies Division since 1999, where she has been head of several projects. Her main area of activity is related to SoftComputing techniques. She is now working on her PhD.

Eduardo ZALAMA, PhD ? Head of Robotics, Computer Vision and Real Time Cartif Divisionat CARTIF. Dr. Zalama received his Ph. D. Degree in Control Engineering from the University of Valladolid (Spain) in 1994. He is currently associate professor in the School of Industrial Engineering, University of Valladolid. He is author and co-author of over 100 papers in the field of robotics, artificial intelligence and neural networks. He has supervised more than 50 Master?s Theses on mobile robotics, artificial intelligence and control systems in the University of Valladolid. Dr. Zalama has participated in several Funded Research Projects during the last twenty years.

Jaime G?MEZ GARC?A-BERMEJO, PhD ? Head of the Artificial Vision Area at CARTIF. Dr. Jaime G?mez Garc?a-Bermejo received the Industrial Engineer degree (in Electronics and Automatic Control) from the University of Valladolid (Spain), in 1990; a Master degree (in Image Processing) from the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Telecommunications de Paris (France), in 1991; and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Valladolid, in 1995. He is co-author of about 100 papers in the fields of computer vision, robotics, artificial intelligence and neural networks and has participated in more 100 Funded Research Projects.
