UPV
The UPV/EHU (www.ehu.es) is a teaching and research institution officially founded in 1985. The university employs over 7,000 people throughout 31 faculties and schools geographically distributed in three campuses with over 50,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students. The UPV/EHU is the Spanish University offering the highest number of degrees, one third of these degrees having a quality mention from the Spanish Ministry of Education. It holds agreements with more than 400 international universities. The UPV/EHU has 107 departments teaching about 78 courses up to the second cycle level. ICT-2011.1.6 SOCIAL&SMART Page 44 of 76 With regards to the seventh Framework Programme, up to the date of submission of this proposal, the University of the Basque Country participates in 64 projects, coordinating 14 of them and is the beneficiary of two Starting Grants and one Advanced Grant, accounting for more than 19 million euros of FP7 financing.
Main tasks in the project In the project UPV/EHU will be involved in those activities concerning social networks, connectionist rule systems, being the leader of WP06. Specifically UPV/EHU will be in charge of designing the social layer, including the modeling of protocols and communication to fit into the low-bandwith profile of the project, as well as the security assessment of the network. The UPV/EHU will also collaborate in the design of the high level social network functions such as rule and consensus generation. Its contributions will also concern WP04 and WP05.
Previous experience relevant to those tasks The group of Computational Intelligence will be the university research group that will be involved in the ?Social&Smart? project. Its research activities focus on the application of techniques of Artificial intelligence, based on bio-inspired and statistical techniques, to diverse aspects of perception and control systems. Those techniques include algorithms of clustering and vector quantization, neuronal networks, Hidden Markov Models, classification supervised algorithms, reinforcement learning and image processing. The applications range from advanced man-machine interaction systems, control of multi-robot systems, to the analysis of social behavior in specific situations, such as emergencies. The group has experience in the realization of supporting software infrastructure for social interaction on the basis of available free source solutions and can downgrade these solutions to the requirements of the project. The group has also experience in quantitative models of social interaction using tools such as JUNG and Cuttlefish. The group has hosted three international conferences: IWANN 2007, HAIS 2010, KES 2012.

Manuel GRA?A ROMAY - He is full professor at the department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence of the Universidad del Pais Vasco. His research interests focuses on control, distributed and embedded systems, image processing, machine learning, bio-inspired computing, robotics, computer systems performance modeling, social network modeling. He co-authored over 80 papers in international journals, over 150 papers in conferences, over 10 books edited. Also, he has directed over 10 research projects funded by the Spanish government and has served as adviser on over 10 PhD Theses.
Alicia D?ANJOU ? She is professor at the department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence of the Universidad del Pais Vasco. Her research interests focus on control, distributed and embedded systems, machine learning, bio-inspired computing, robotics, social network modeling, chaotic systems modeling. She is coauthor of over 50 papers in international journals, over 100 papers in conferences. She has directed 2 and participated in 10 research projects funded by the Spanish government, and has advised 3 PhD Theses.

She coauthor of over than 10 papers in international journals, and over 40 papers in conferences.
Jose Manuel Lopez Guede. He is assistant professor of the department of Systems engineering and automatics of the University of the Basque Country. He has earned his PhD in 2012 working on reinforcement learning for control of multirobot systems, specifically linked multicomponent robotic systems. He has published some 4 papers in international journals and more than 10 in conferences.
Borja Fernandez Gauna. He is assistant professor of the department of Languages and Software Engineering of the University of the Basque Country. He has earned his PhD in 2012 working on reinforcement learning for control of multirobot systems, specifically linked multicomponent robotic systems. He has published some 4 papers in international journals and more than 10 in conferences.
